Professor Siyi Fu – Cardiff Confucius Institute
Cardiff Confucius Institute is based at Cardiff University’s Centre for Lifelong Learning and is a provider of Chinese Language and Culture Training. The institute is a partnership between the University and Xiamen University and is part-funded by the Chinese Government Authorities. Prof Siyi Fu of Xaimen University is the Cardiff-based Academic Director if the institute and is responsible for the development of a range of language training programmes and other orientation courses including Chinese Commercial Culture and Chinese Business Communication.

Professor Deng Lili MBA
Professor Deng is a Director of the Centre for Animation and Game at the Institute for Cultural Industries, Peking University where she has also been working as a Research Fellow. She is also a producer of several films and animation series in China and editor of dozen books on arts, heritage, animation and game. Professor Deng received her MBA from Guanghua School of Management of Peking University. She is also a Deputy Director of Culture and Arts Committee of CAPD (China Association for Promoting Democracy) and leads forum and consultancy projects on animation and game.

Dr Zhen Ye LLM, PhD
Zhen is an Executive Director of Golden Bough International Intellectual Property, the first Chinese IP company of its kind in the UK working closely with creative industries. Also working as a faculty of Hull University Business School, Zhen is Senior Visiting Professor at the Institute for Cultural Industries, Peking University. He is a leading expert on global cultural industries and works as a consultant with national governments and international organisations. Published extensively on the subject of creativity, Zhen is a first prize co-winner with Ying Jiang in China National Library Book Award in December 2008.

Professor Alan Barrell DBA, FRSA
Alan has spent almost 30 years in senior executive positions in technology based industries and has become one of Cambridge’s most articulate promoters of entrepreneurship. He was a founder shareholder in Library House Ltd, and is now Entrepreneur in Residence at Cambridge University Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, Judge Business School. He is also Visiting Professor of Enterprise at the University Of Bedfordshire School Of Graduate Business Studies and Xiamen University, and a Director of Golden Bough International Intellectual Property. Alan is a holder for Queen’s Award in Enterprise.

Ken Grant MSc, MCIM
Ken trained in electrical and electronic engineering before moving into marketing and creative industries. He has worked in the International marketing and business development fields for over 20 years, operating in North and South America, Europe and the Middle East, China and Japan. Ken was involved in setting up an organisation to assist UK creative businesses to access the markets of China and India and gained significant experience on the sector. Since then, he has opened his own office in Shanghai providing PR, local marketing and most importantly business development support.

Yu Chaozhong MA, MA
Yu is a Vice President of Beijing Crystal Digital Technology Ltd, China’s leading firm in Computer Graphic (CG). He currently leads the company’s project in World Expo 2010 which will be held in Shanghai. Yu received his BA and MA from Harbin and Nanjing University on design and further pursued MA studies and EDP in creative industries in Peking University and the Central Academy of Arts in China. He has worked extensively in China’s major creative project ranging Beijing Olympic, World Expo to 798 creative zones in Beijing. In 2007, Yu received a silver medal in Beijing’s Young Creative Talent Award.

Mr Mike Thomas – China Britain Business Council
Mike Thomas has recently moved to his new role as the China Business Advisor and Manager for Wales at the China Britain Business Council; having formerly worked for International Business Wales. Mike has been involved in a number of trade missions to China whilst representing the Welsh Assembly and has played a key role in supporting global companies to take advantage of the real opportunities available by trading with or establishing operations in Wales, UK.

Jian J Zhang – Professor of Computer Graphics
Jian J Zhang is Professor of Computer Graphics at the Media School, Bournemouth University. He leads the Computer Animation Research Centre, National Centre for Computer Animation (NCCA).
The NCCA is renowned for its research and education efforts in computer animation. Led by Prof Zhang, the NCCA was rated 100% 4* in RAE2008 for its Esteem Indicators with over 70% of their outputs rated 4* and 3*. The 3D World magazine repeatedly ranked the NCCA as the number 1 UK education base in computer animation.
Prof Zhang has chaired numerous international conferences and symposia. He has produced over 150 peer reviewed publications and given over 30 invited and keynote presentations internationally including Europe,America, China and Australia.
Tony Hughes – Outline, 2010
Tony Hughes – Outline 2010– is a veteran of the digital media industry in the UK. He has worked in research and commercial positions for the past 15 years, working with clients such as the BBC, Sony and BT. He currently runs an Innovation Agency, based in the UK, that consults to large corporations as well as small companies in the digital media field. In addition he has a mobile production company that develops interactive entertainment.
At present Tony runs Focus Innovation, a digital media innovation agency that works with Software Developers, Animators, TV and Games companies in the UK. For the past couple of years he has also performed the role of Sector Champion for the Digital Content Industries – Digital Media, Games, Animation, Film and TV – for UK Trade and Investment. Tony works with overseas companies that are looking to expand into Europe and helps them understand and settle into the UK.
Michael Rawlinson - Director General of UKIE
Michael Rawlinson was appointed Director General of UKIE (formerly ELSPA) in March 2009. He joined ELSPA in 1999, first as General Manager and later working through the ranks to become the association’s Managing Director. As Director General Michael oversees all aspects of UKIE’s work, championing the needs of the video games and wider interactive entertainment industry. More recently, Michael has been appointed as the videogames industry’s representative on the executive board of the wide-reaching UK Council for Child Internet Safety. The formation of the council was a key recommendation of the Byron Review, and the inclusion of the videogames industry is seen as recognition of its integral part at the heart of the country’s entertainment establishment. Michael is also vice Chairman of the Alliance Against IP Theft.

Dr. Hardy Yong Xiang

Yong Xiang is a University Assistant Professor and Vice Dean of the Institute for Cultural Industries (ICI), Peking University (PKU), where he is working on a Creativity and Management project. He joined the PKU cultural industries research group in 2003. He gained his PhD in Management at School of Government, PKU for work on The Research on Competency Model of Creative Managers in Chinese Cultural Industries. He gained his MA in Arts Administration at School of Arts, PKU and his BA in Philosophy (Major), Economics (Minor), Department of Philosophy & China Centre for Economics Research (CCER), PKU. Lucy Montgomery Research Fellow Australian Research Council funded Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation (CCI)
Lucy graduated with First Class Honours in Asian Studies from the University of Adelaide, beforegoing on to complete her PhD in the Creative Industries Faculty at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia in 2007. Her current work explores evolutionary approaches to understanding the role of copyright in creative innovation in China, Indonesia and Indigenous Australia. Lucy is the author of ‘China’s Creative Industries: Copyright, Social Network Markets and the Business of Culture in a Digital Age’, 2010
Alex Callard Vice Chancellor PhD Scholarship 2011
Alex Callard is a Vice Chancellor’s PhD Scholar at London Metropolitan University conducting research into the applications of artificial intelligence to improve the quality of crowd-sourced knowledge. Alex is applying his research in the creation of a crowd-sourced, global repository of knowledge on Cultural and Creative Industries – ‘Culturepedia’. View website
